UKIP in Hillingdon will try to ride the publicity wave following their leader Nigel Farage’s apearance in a live radio and TV debate with a television appearance of their own.

The BBC was in Uxbridge yesterday (Wednesday) to film material for a piece about UKIP in the May 22 local and European election for The Politics Show, due to air on Sunday.

A crew filmed activists who had hastily set up a stall in Uxbridge High Street outisde The Pavilions shopping centre and were handing out literature to passers-by.

They also interviewed the party’s borough chairman and candidate, Cliff Dixon, and fellow candidate Jack Duffin. Former London mayoral candidate Lawrence Webb was also present.

Mr Farage went head to head with Lib Dem leader Nick Clegg in a live debate hosted by LBC radio station on Wednesday evening.

Mr Dixon said he got the call to say the cameras would be coming only on Tuesday afternoon.

“I frantically called around the members and managed to get a decent turnout on a weekday,” he said.
