Dimwits! It is not yet illegal to sell a 100W light bulb, so big stores like Asda should not volunteer to discontinue them.
A national paper article explained the background to this Government's efforts to outlaw ordinary light bulbs on environmental grounds.
This is because of a Euro Diktat signed by Tony Blair in 2007.
To save the planet, emit less CO2, so power stations should burn less fuel, therefore light bulbs are prohibited.
We must all have these 'Compact Fluorescent Lights' (CFLs) instead, because the Government says so. CFLs contain poisonous mercury vapour. They hum and flicker (which can trigger migraines and epileptic fits). They do not emit the same quantity of light as a 100W bulb. The quality of light they deliver is inferior. It is not bright enough to read by, and is so dim and gloomy that it can cause depression symptoms. I know, because I have tried them. And, of course, they are more expensive.
How can this government justify expansion of Heathrow Airport - which will cause vast pollution - when they cite environmental grounds for outlawing light bulbs?
In seeking to curtail our freedom to buy a light bulb, this nanny state, control freak government has now gone too far.
