An Ealing astronomy group is looking ahead to the next solar eclipse following a disappointing viewing last week.

The Northolt Branch Astro Group organised a public viewing event - with an array of high-powered telescopes for safe viewing - at the top of Horsenden Hill, in Greenford, on Friday (March 20). But, unfortunately, the cloud spoiled their views.

Organiser Guy Wells said: “It was a good turn-out considering it was forecast to be cloudy.

"Given that we didn’t actually have the opportunity to see the eclipse it was a bit of a disappointment but we are already waiting for the next one in 12 years time!

“The event was still very successful, it was positive to see so many people from the public come and view it with us, even though they didn't get to see the eclipse itself.”

Around 120 people joined together to take part in the event.

“It's quite a challenge to set up astronomy meetings because changes in weather can mean we have to cancel at short notice," Mr Wells added. “We plan to cover meteor showers and a solar viewing event some time next week, weather permitting of course.”

The Northolt Astro group hold regular meetings and viewing events in the area and are always looking for new members to come along.
