FROM Amy Winehouse to Stevie Wonder, the tunes belted out by this choir are not the usual religious melodies.

And in fact you do not even have to be able to sing to be able to take part in Rock Choir.

There is no audition, and you do not have to sing alone or be able to read music. The focus is on pop, gospel and

Motown, and Rock Choir prides itself on offering children and adults 'a release from everyday life'.

Established in 2005, it is the leading contemporary choir in the UK and has more than 800 members in groups right across London. A morning choir in Chiswick was added to the list on Wednesday.

Director Caroline Redman Lusher said: "Most individuals who join are less than confident in their voices and in themselves. It's our job to care for them in whichever way they need and build their confidence so they can sing their hearts out each week, leading to the events we arrange."

Members of the choir recently appeared on the Paul O'Grady Show.

Starting this week, Rock Choir is holding rehearsals at the Russian Orthodox Church, 57 Harvard Road, Chiswick, on Wednesdays, from 10am to 11.30am, and two evening sessions on Thursdays, from 6.30pm to 8pm and from 8pm to 9pm.
