The number of apprenticeships on offer to young people in Feltham and Heston over the past year are one of the highest of any London borough.

Latest government figures show 860 new apprenticeship places were offered in the borough between during the 2013/14 financial year, meaning more youngsters were gaining the skills they needed for a career.

In total, since 2010 there have been 3,660 new apprenticeships for people in Hounslow.

Barking, Orpington, Poplar and Limehouse and West Ham are the only other London boroughs to offer a higher number of new apprenticeships during the 2013/14 period.

Simon Nayyar , conservative candidate to contest Feltham and Heston in next year's general election, said: “These figures are great news. 3,660 new apprenticeships since 2010 means more young people in Feltham and Heston getting the skills for they’ll need for the future and is clear evidence that local business confidence is growing."

Last month, Prime Minister David Cameron announced a future Tory government would build on this by making a £1 billion commitment to delivering three million apprenticeships by 2020 and end youth unemployment.

The move would be funded by reducing the maximum amount claimed on benefits from £26,000 to £23,000, and limiting young people’s access to housing benefit.

Mr Nayyar added: “By making sure, as part of our long-term economic plan, we deliver the best schools and skills for young people the Conservatives are ensuring the next generation have the skills and opportunities they’ll need to get a good job – so they can have a brighter, more secure future ahead of them.”
