I will not be the only reader of the Chronicle to have read the article about the payment to MPs for second homes and noted the comment from Alan Keen MP, which said 'we apply our own ethics'.

Ethics are of course crucial, which is why I have always been disappointed that he has relied solely on legal argument and being within the rules.

His constituents want to know why a second property in central London is required for him to perform his role?

I would remind Mr Keen that he was on a platform with me when the 2005 General Election result was announced for Feltham and Heston and he stated that he would explain this very point in the future. As of yet, he has not done so. Ethically, he needs to do so.
