I COMPLETELY agree with Val Hudson (Polyclinic at the RAF site would fly, Letters, February 17). She is absolutely right to say there is no space for the polyclinic on the hospital site.

I wrote to the Gazette last year suggesting the RAF site for the new Hillingdon Hospital. The hospital trust's chairman turned this down, although it would clearly make a lot of sense as it would allow services to continue on the present site while the new building is in construction.

Anyone visiting the hospital by car knows it is well nigh impossible to find a parking space. The car park is probably the only place the polyclinic could be built, so the parking pressure would increase greatly.

Now here's another good idea for the NHS to reject (but let's hope not): Why not relocate Uxbridge Health Centre, in George Street, to the RAF site, but with the full range of polyclinic services?

The RAF site plans include a medical facility, presumably specified by the primary care trust, so that ought to be designed as a polyclinic.

Proceeds from the sale of the George Street site could be factored in to the costings for the polyclinic. There would be good public transport links to the RAF site.
