THREE cheers were given to Harefield lady Annie Bright as she celebrated her 100th birthday last week.

The Mayor and Mayoress of Hillingdon, Allan and Lynne Kauffman, joined Mrs Bright (nee Attew) and her family and more than 60 residents and staff at the Coppermill Care Centre in Canal Lane, Harefield on December 6.

They shared champagne, food and a birthday cake made by one of the carers and enjoyed songs from an entertainer.

Mrs Bright was born in Willesden in 1913 then moved to Bedford Park in Chiswick.

She left school aged 14 and took a job as a silk screen printer, later becoming a dental assistant before marrying Ernest Bright, a motor engineer, in 1939.

The pair lived in Hammersmith in 1939 and stayed at the same address for 70 years.

Mr Bright also enjoyed a long life, passing away aged 94 in 2003, and Mrs Bright moved to Harefield soon after.

The pair have one son, Dennis, who is married to Iris.

They also have two grandchildren; Mark and Sonia, and four great grandchildren; Samuel, Emily, Alice and James.

Annie moved to the Coppermill Care Home in 2009, a place she calls ‘Buckingham Palace’.

“She has been very happy there since day one,” said Dennis.

“She had an absolutely lovely birthday, it was beautiful.”

She received lots of flowers and chocolates and a patchwork quilt made by one of the staff.

“She was so pleased with everything,” added Dennis.

The following day more family and friends visited the care home for another day of celebrations.

Annie says she attributes her and her late husband’s grand ages to leading quiet lives.
