Supporters and staff of an animal home joined top celebrities and athletes sprinting through the streets of London to raise vital funds for unwanted and abused animals.

Estate agents, Leigh Givnan, and Mat Plocharski, from Daniels, in Kensal Rise raised £465 for taking part in the British 10km London Run on Sunday last week (July 13).

Over £7,000 was raised for The Mayhew Animal Home in Trenmar Gardens, Kensal Green this year which will help thousands of cats and dogs.

They were joined by a team of 21 Mayhew staff and volunteers, Leigh, 20, said: “It is great to raise money for the Mayhew as I have seen for myself the amazing work they do. We adopted a rescue dog from the home so it’s nice to carry on helping. It is a great cause.”

More than 25,000 people followed in the footsteps of Olympian giants on the same route used by athletes for the marathon in 2012.

They sprinted through the heart of central London passing iconic landmarks including Big Ben, St Paul's Cathedral and Trafalgar Square before finishing at Whitehall.
