Animal lovers in their hundreds attended the 36th annual Ealing Animal Bizarre – an event which has been running since 1978.

Hanwell Methodist Church hosted over 30 charities and societies as part of an event to promote world-wide animal welfare awareness on Saturday (March 1).

Raising money through donation and the sale of crafts and pet accessories, the event received much support from the local community, with former Mayor of Ealing, Michael Elliot, and Conservative MP, Dr. Charles Tannock, among those in attendance.

Included in the charities was Hen Heaven – a sanctuary for battery chickens and turkeys based in West Sussex – who passionately promote hen welfare with the mantra, “the chicken comes before the egg”.

More well-known charities like the Ealing and Hanwell RSPCA and international ones like Animal Asia were also present and on-hand to answer any animal-related questions.

Marion Garnett , the event organiser, said: “The day was really well attended and everyone was really supportive – there was a great buzz around the place.

“It’s great to see local and international charities raising money on a global level for such a worthy cause."
