As we leave 2011 behind, our thoughts inevitably turn from memories of the year gone by to what the New Year will bring.
Most important to remember, I think, is that 2012 promises to be a truly special year. We have the Queen's Diamond Jubilee to look forward to and next Summer the London Olympics will provide a major lift for the country, while also, hopefully, showcasing all our fantastic young athletic talents (including some from Ealing!) and showing off our capital city in the best possible light. We all look forward too to seeing the Olympic Torch pass through Ealing on 24th July!
But 2012 promises to be a challenging year too. Our leaders are working hard to protect Britain from the potential fallout from the Eurozone crisis and, I believe, have been successful, so far, in standing up for our country's best interests. The new economic realities have led to tough decisions which have had to be taken at home and nobody is pretending that 2012 is going to be easy. On a positive note closer to home, we can look forward to work starting on our new Ealing cinema and, while we wait for the improvements Crossrail is due to bring, we can continue to push for some of those to be brought forward early - especially at Ealing Broadway station.
Whatever 2012 brings, I know that we will all continue to stand together as a strong community. And may I wish everyone in Ealing and Acton a very happy and successful New Year.
