THE AUNT of Sofyen Ghailan has hit out at Conservative Leader David Cameron following his use of the fatally stabbed teenager as an example of 'Broken Britain'.

During the leader's speech on Tuesday at the Centre for Social Justice event in London on 'mending the broken society', Mr Cameron spoke of the tragic death of the 15-year-old boy from East Acton, saying it was an example of the crime levels on the streets of England.

But Asya Ghailan, Sofyen's aunt, said the family was shocked that the Conservative leader had not contacted them to alert them of his speech and had not extended his condolences following the teenager's death.

Miss Ghailan, said: "We haven't received any correspondence and feel that if he was so inspired or touched by Sofyen's death, why didn't he come to us first and let us know he would be speaking of him?

"It came as a shock. Everyone is still grieving and David said it was a real tragedy, as it was during rush hour in one of London's busiest stations.

"We just felt it would have been nice to have been contacted first and perhaps David will accompany us on our march on Monday to show his support."

A Conservative Party spokesman said: "Someone from David's private office got in touch with Sofyen's family on Wednesday to send his condolences about this tragic case.

"He has asked for a private meeting with the family so he can hear first hand their experiences and their concerns about the criminal justice system."
