A controversial bus stop in Brentford is staying put despite accusations drivers have repeatedly scraped the walls of flats at the site.

The 235 route from Sunbury to Brentford was extended in December last year from Brentford County Court, in Brentford High Street, to the piazza of the Great West Quarter development, which lies just off Ealing Road, near the junction with the M4.

The move has prompted numerous complaints from those living in the new development, who claim drivers have bumped into walls there at least 15 times.

A petition demanding the terminus be moved outside the development, into Ealing Road, was signed by 333 people living on the estate, who also complained about exhaust fumes and being woken by engines early in the morning.

Steve Dennis, a 54-year-old consultant who has lived in the development for two years, said: "At 6am each morning we have three or four buses revving up outside. As well as waking people up they're adding to pollution which is already above the legal limit. Since the bus stop moved here, drivers have hit the walls at least 15 times.

However, Transport for London (TfL) said while it was aware of concerns it had no plans to move the stop, which is used by more than 250 passengers on a typical weekday.

Mike Weston, TfL's director of buses, said: "We are aware of some concerns by local residents of the Great West Quarter about the terminus for bus route 235.

"We introduced this service in partnership with Hounslow Council to give residents an extra public transport option which is already being used by over 250 passengers on a typical weekday.

"Discussions are ongoing with the council and the site managers to address some issues raised but there are no plans to move the service from its current stop."
