A TV and radio presenter joined her father, leader of Ealing Council, for the official opening of a school extension in Northolt.

Angellica Bell, reporter on BBC’s The One Show, and Councillor Julian Bell unveiled a plaque at a ceremony marking developments at Gifford Primary School on Friday (September 26).

Staff, pupils and governors gathered for speeches by headteacher Nigel Cook and chair of governors Philip Young before the school’s pop choir sang three songs and one child from each class read a poem on what they think makes Gifford great.

Guests, including mayor of Ealing Councillor Tej Ram Bagha, executive director of children’s services David Archibald and architect Colin Way, then moved to the playing fields to watch 100 red balloons being released to mark the event.

The new extension is made up of a new hall, a nursery, four reception classes, meeting rooms, a parent room, a music room, two extra classrooms and a conference room.

The office space has been reconfigured and there are three new offices for the headteacher, deputy head and office staff.

The front entrance has also been re-modelled and made larger to provide better customer service.

The building works at the school started in September 2012 and were completed in January 2014.

Mr Young said: “It’s a fantastic addition to our school and gives us more space to continue the great work that everybody at Gifford is doing.”
