A boxer with Olympic medals and world titles under his belt talked to young people in Stonebridge.

Amir Khan, one of the youngest British world champion boxers, visited Stonebridge Boxing Club, Winchelsea Road on Monday.

He spoke to young people about the importance of staying away from involvement in gangs and drugs.

The Olympic medallist said: "I’m delighted to come back to Stonebridge Boxing Club and see the great work they are continuing to do in the community. It’s really important to have facilities like this in Brent so young people have something to do and not get involved with gangs and drugs.  Boxing can really help young people to channel their energy in a positive way and keep-fit at the same time. I’m really impressed with the work the Stonebridge Boxing Club is doing in the area and helping to make a difference. I'd like to thank all the coaches and volunteers at the club for all the work they do with the kids. I can't wait to come back to Stonebridge."

Labour councillor for the ward Zaffar Van Kalwala said: "it was fantastic to have Amir Khan visit the Stonebridge Boxing Club again. He was really great with the kids talking to them about the importance of staying away from gangs and focusing on keeping fit and working hard. He even showed them some of his great skills and what it takes to be a world champion. I'd like to say a special thanks to Amir and the community for all the support they gave to keep the club open. Without their help we wouldn't be here today."
