A MUM-OF-TWO, who raises money for cancer research and helps the elderly has been put forward for a community champion award.

Christine Elliott, 59, of Mount Pleasant Road, Ealing was nominated four a Pride in our People Award by neighbour, Mary Codrington, who said: "Chris helps raise funds for Marie Curie and St David's home and helps at the home and at Ealing Abbey. She is amazing."

Christine, who has been collecting for Marie Curie's daffodil appeal for a few years, said she wanted to do more. She said: "I was invited to a meeting to form a local Marie Curie fund-raising committee and a few of us organise events. I also asked Waitrose if they could make Marie Curie one of their fund-raisers which raised £580 and hope they will do the same for St David's.

"I help out at the over 60s club at Ealing Abbey and St David's because it's a terribly worthwhile cause but I am stunned to be nominated. There are people doing much better things than me."

The Pride in Our People awards is being organised by the Ealing Gazette and Thames Valley University.
