I used to live in Uxbridge over eight years ago, having lived there for almost 20 years, and I had many fulfilling, happy years with a growing family.
It was a small market town then with character, and Windsor Street was often used for film location shots, especially Hercule Poirot out of Agatha Christie and many more.
I returned on December 27, 2008, as I was in the area visiting family, and I was aghast as to how the town has grown out of all recognition.
But as with progress, times change, and resistance is futile unless you are still in the dinosaur stage of evolution.
I used to be the steward of the Ex-Services Club, and my wife and I and my chosen, loyal staff served it religously without fault until my wife and I decided to move to Wales, which has proven a fruitful, wise decision.
I did not see a lot of people who were great, genuine friends on my visit but that is to be expected if unannounced.
However, I feel comfortable showing my presence in Uxbridge after so many years as I treat people as I would expect to be treated.
May I wish anyone who knew us a very Happy New Year, even if you were sad enough to not like us, and remember life is a short part of existence, so enjoy.
