A famous author has set her latest book in her home town of "leafy" Chiswick.

"Chic-lit" author Adele Parks, who has sold over 1.5 million books in the UK, and is considered one of the country's most popular female authors, has chosen Chiswick as the setting for her 10th book, Men I've Loved Before.

The novel which has already become her 10th top ten bestseller, tells the story of a woman at a junction in her relationship, who works in Brentford and enjoys her life in Chiswick.

An extract from the book's first chapter reads: "Nat and Neil both loved living in Chiswick, a leady, villagey sort of place, awash with bistros, trees, arty types and less romantically but quite certainly, stuffed with commuters, Starbucks franchises and estate agents.

"They embraced both aspects of Chiswick life, the cool chic and the convenience. Proud and thrilled to have got on the property ladder at all, they were both delighted to be living in such a desirable part of London."

Adele, 41, was born in Teeside and studied English language and Literature at Leicester University before going on to work in advertising and management consultancy.

Her first book, Playing Away, was published in 2000 and was named as one of the Evening Standard's Twenty Faces to Watch for London.

Adele is due to appear at the Chiswick Book Festival which is taking place from Friday, September 17 to Sunday, September 19.

Adele will be at St Michael and All Angel's Church at 2pm on the Sunday.

Other authors joining the festival include Terry Pratchett, Sadie Jones and Andrew Motion.
