IT was the launch pad for famous faces such as Kylie Minogue and has a theme tune few would fail to recognise.
Now a young Brentford actress is asking for help in becoming part of what has become one of Australia's biggest Exports – Neighbours.
Olivia Kennett, 19, beat off competition from 1,500 other entrants to become a finalist in a nationwide competition set up by Channel Five, to find an English girl to play the four-week guest role of character Poppy Rogers, in the popular Ozzy soap.
Now Olivia of Layton Road Brentford, is asking Hounslow Chronicle readers to vote for her to be chosen as one of two "Poppys" to be flown to Australia for the final round where they will meet with the show's producers.
"I am just so excited," said the ex St Paul's School student.
"I can't believe I'm in the final five. I've wanted to be an actress my entire life and I grew up watching Neighbours so this would be the opportunity of a lifetime."
Olivia who has been acting from the age of 10 and says she hopes she will "do Neighbours viewers proud" sent her video audition into the competition on deadline day and had her dad play the role of Karl Kennedy.
"I would probably faint if I met Karl Kennedy in real life," said Olivia who works in the Westfield centre.
"I thought it was my dad playing a trick on me when I heard I was in the final."
The search for the new "care free and slightly annoying" character of Poppy was launched to celebrate Neighbours' 25th anniversary and ends when the top two Poppys are revealed live on Studio Five on Monday, June 28.
