A KIND-hearted shopkeeper has donated more than £700 to help a children’s centre buy expensive learning equipment.

Kalingarajah Thiliban, director of Acton Oriental Stores, in Gunnersbury Lane, Acton, raised £733 for South Acton Children’s Centre from a percentage of takings on selected products.

The shop chose to support the nursery, in Castle Close, after suggestions from shoppers as part of the Making a Difference Locally charity initiative.

Jennifer Beaumont, finance manager at the children’s centre, said the money will be used to buy interactive whiteboards to help staff communicate with children in the special care unit who have severe learning difficulties.

She said: “As the times are as they are and money is scarce, we are grateful for any donations we get.

“This piece of equipment we have wanted for a while, so it’s great to get this donation so we can help the children.”

The Ealing Council-supported centre cares for 120 children aged three and four in its day nursery and more than 50 children in its under-three sessions.
