RAIDERS ransacked an Acton shop stealing nearly £10,000 worth of stock and takings and making off with an entire cash machine.

The burglars left behind a cast iron jack they had used to rip the ATM off the floor at the Londis convenience store in Churchfield Road, Acton.

Subramaniyam Sothinathan, the owner of the franchise, discovered the break-in when he opened up at about 5.30am on Thursday.

The 48-year-old said: “There was mess all over the floor, and they'd taken all the money from the back which I was going to take to the bank that morning.

“I've been here nearly ten years and we've never had anything like this before, it's so upsetting. I don't know why the alarm didn't work.

“Our customers have been really supportive but we're going to have to work much harder now to make up for all the lost stock.

“The insurance company is still getting back to us so we don't know just how badly it's going to affect us yet.”

As well as cash the criminals made off with the store's entire stock of cigarettes, some alcohol, including six bottles of champagne, and a DVD player.

They smashed their way through the back of the shop sometime between the early hours of the morning and 11pm the night before when staff closed up.
