HUNDREDS of people got their pulses racing at one of any number of activity sessions organised for the first Active Harrow weekend.

Visitors took advantage of free taster sessions including badminton, football, tennis, golf, volleyball as well as martial arts, ballroom dancing and yoga over Saturday and Sunday.

In the town centre, a stage was set up for shoppers to see dance performances from among others Kidology Dance Company and Karan's Bollywood Masterclass.

Harrow Council's cabinet member for health and wellbeing, Councillor Simon Williams (Conservative), said: “It was fantastic to see so many people taking advantage of all the free activities on offer.

“This weekend was all about showing the people of Harrow the sheer number of resources available on their doorstep to help them keep active, get healthy and have fun.

“We have lots of parks and green spaces to run or walk in, and a huge numbers of sports clubs offering a wealth of activities – something to suit everyone.

“Hopefully, everyone who took part went away with a new-found enthusiasm, whether that was a desire to join a club or to enjoy more of our beautiful borough through walking, running or cycling.”

The weekend was coincidentally the fundraising Sport Relief weekend and more than 80 people took part in the Sport Relief mile, running either one, three or six miles around Bannister Sports Centre in Uxbridge Road, Hatch End, and around 30 people enjoyed the Sport Relief sponsored swim at Harrow Leisure Centre in Christchurch Avenue, Wealdstone.
