PULL on your trainers, grab your sweatband and feel the burn: the Active Harrow weekend is coming.

More than 20 free taster sessions will be on offer on Saturday and Sunday, March 22 and 23, to encourage people to take part in physically energetic pursuits in a bid to keep fit.

Families will be able to sample yoga, Irish dancing, Bollywood dancing, karate, football, tennis, badminton and many more activities all arranged by local clubs or providers. All equipment will be provided and some sessions have age restrictions.

Harrow Council's cabinet member for health and wellbeing Councillor Simon Williams (Conservative) said: “There is an extraordinary range of free sessions on offer throughout the weekend.

“We’d love for everyone to try out as many as possible but even if you just participate in one, it will still be a huge step towards getting fitter and healthier.

“There is so much to choose from and you never know, you could end up discovering a new hobby!”

Fundraising for charities is one of the pillars of the weekend because it coincides with Sport Relief.

People can take part in a sponsored Swimathon at Harrow Leisure Centre in Christchurch Avenue, Wealdstone, on Saturday, and a Sport Relief Mile at Bannister Sports Centre in Uxbridge Road, Hatch End, on Sunday, where people can take part in either one, three or six mile runs.
