Harrow Council is spending £70,000 to tackle grime and litter around train stations during the evening rush hour.

The deep-clean operation is now in full swing and each day from 3pm and 7pm two teams of street cleaners empty bins, clean up fly-tipping, remove rubbish and kill weeds from Harrow's stations and surrounding roads.

The areas being targeted include Hatch End, Pinner, West Harrow, South

Harrow, North Harrow, Canons Park, Stanmore, Rayners Lane, Headstone Lane and Sudbury Hill.

Councillor Susan Hall, responsible for environment service, said: "This operation is a clear sign of Harrow council's commitment to keep the borough clean.

"As part of our continued efforts to clean-up streets and tackle envirocrime, we have also invested an extra £750,000 in this area.

"In addition, the council continues to wage war on fly-tipping and graffiti and mid-September our next Week of Action will target Queensbury and Kenton East."
