THE privatisation of the Royal Mail announced by the government is a direct consequence of a European Union directive, which requires that postal services should be opened up to competition.

Thus the Royal Mail has been gutted of its profitable activities, leaving it with only the loss-making postal services.

The Government is no longer allowed to subsidise the post, so its only remaining option is to close local post offices and sell the rest off.

This is just another example of how one-size-fits-all EU legislation damages our way of life.Just as the British jobs for British workers fiasco showed, we can no longer run our own affairs in our own interests.

If we want to keep the Royal Mail, if we want to preserve our jobs and preserve our way of life, then we have no option but to leave the European Union.
