To celebrate its £3million transformation Southall’s Dominion Centre and Library is holding an open day.

Ealing Council’s leader, Councillor Julian Bell and the Mayor, Councillor Tej Ram Bagha will mark the relaunch of the community centre and library, at The Green, Southall by unveiling a commemorative plaque at 2.30pm on Friday, November 7.

On Saturday families will also be treated to dance, martial arts, storytelling, and arts and crafts to celebrate the centre’s face lift.

The event takes place from 10am to 4pm, November 8, and will give residents a chance to have a full tour of the newly refurbished centre – which now boasts a new extension, café and learning room – along with the newly relocated Southall Library.

The new look centre also incorporates a community centre where local groups can meet and host events and activities.

Ealing’s collection of Martinware pottery, which is housed at Southall Library has also been given a fresh look to reflect its new surroundings and visitors will be able to see this updated interpretation at the open day as well.

Councillor Julian Bell said: “The Dominion Centre’s transformation is such a triumph because it delivered a first class community centre and library and made a huge contribution to Southall’s ongoing, multi-million pound regeneration.

“The activities and services on offer here also make the Dominion Centre more relevant and more accessible for a wider group of people in the community too, which is really fantastic.”

The newly located Southall Library, which moved into the centre in spring 2014 has new self-service points, free Wi-Fi access and a large selection of books, e-books and DVDs.
