HESTON West is to benefit from a £1 million Lottery windfall.

The money, to be spent over the next decade, was awarded because the area has missed out on Lottery cash over the years.

Residents will be asked how they want the money, made available as part of the Lottery's Big Local Programme, to be spent.

The funding can be used for any project, big or small, though it is not intended for building work.

Anyone living in the area can get involved by joining the local steering group, attending community meetings or volunteering at community events.

Ward councillor Rajinder Bath, chairman of the Heston West Big Local Partnership, said: "No funding will be spent in the estate until January 2012 as no one yet knows what the residents' priorities are.

"Our main concern at the moment is talking to local people to make sure everyone locally knows this is happening, and knows how they can get involved."

The project was launched at Berkeley School last week, where ideas put forward by guests ranged from social clubs for older people to activities for youngsters.
