West Middlesex Hospital maternity team receive Baby Friendly award

Award recognises top care for mothers and babies at West Middlesex Hospital

Katie Arneil and Lucinder Hartstone, Midwife receive Baby Friendly award

Expectant mothers preparing to give birth at West Middlesex Hospital will be glad to know the maternity ward has retained an award for delivering a high standard of care.

Staff celebrated being re-accredited with the Baby Friendly award in recognition of their care towards breastfeeding mothers and their babies.

The team at the hospital, in Isleworth, passed the three stages involved in the reassessment process to gain the certificate for a second time proving their standards had been maintained.

A delighted Katie Arneil, infant feeding coordinator, said the team were thrilled to receive the re-accreditation award from UNICEF.

"We have been working really hard to provide a high standard of care for women and families who use our services and I am really proud to have been part of the team who has achieved this," said Ms Arneil. "This is great recognition of the work we do in ensuring all new mums feel comfortable and supported when feeding and bonding with their new born baby.”

The Baby Friendly initiative is run by UNICEF and the World Health Organisation who work with public services to improve the level of care and support available on breastfeeding and parent-infant relationships.

Tonie Neville, head of midwifery, added: “We are thrilled to have received the reaccreditation from UNICEF to acknowledge the very high standards of care women and their babies can expect to receive here at West Middlesex.

"This is another fantastic achievement for our maternity services following the recent opening of our brand new facilities earlier this year.”
