Ealing has one of the best rates for people taking up the NHS Health Check offer in England, while Harrow's community scores among the worst.

Only 7% of people in Harrow - eligible for health checks to prevent heart disease, strokes, kidney disease and diabetes - have taken up the offer, according to figures from NHS England.

In both Hillingdon and Kensington & Chelsea, only 8% have taken up the scheme.

However, Ealing has one of the best take-up rates in England (the eighth highest in the country), with 17% of the population having the checks.

Everyone, between the ages of 40 and 74, who has not already been diagnosed with one of these conditions, will be invited once every five years to have a check to assess, raise awareness and support them to manage their risk of cardiovascular disease.

Since April 2013, local authorities have had a legal duty to make arrangements to provide the NHS Health Check programme to 100% of the eligible population over a five-year period and to achieve continuous improvement in uptake.

The data for 2013/14 is for the first year of the five-year period, so about a fifth of the local population should have been checked within the first year, although initial take-up rates may be lower.
