Like the rest of Britain - comedian Bill Bailey was stunned by Iceland's last gasp win over Austria in the Euro 2016 finals on Wednesday (June 22).

The tournaments underdogs managed to beat Cristiano Ronaldo's Portugal to second place in Group F, setting up a knockout game with England on Monday (June 27) in the last 16.

And keen to big up their achievements even more, Bailey - also an actor, presenter and Hammersmith resident - made a startling comparison.

He tweeted: "Well done to Iceland. In population terms, it's like the London Borough of Ealing are through."

Iceland is estimated to have a population of around 330,000, not far from Ealing's 342,100 given by the Office for National Statistics in 2014.

His words were re-tweeted by hundreds of people within hours and "loved" by more than 1,000 people.

England will play Iceland after finishing second in Group B, after beating Wales but drawing against Russia and Slovakia.
