A colourful mural was unveiled by pupils to honour a pensioner killed near their school.

The mural which says ‘we all deserve a nice place to live’ has been hung on the railings outside Coston Primary, in Oldfield Lane South, Greenford.

The artwork revealed on March 28 was created by students and staff as a tribute to Paula Castle , the partially sighted 85-year-old who was killed in the alley adjoining Goring Way and Oldfield Lane in November 2012.

All the children created designs and the winning one chosen was by seven-year-old year two pupil Igor Pala.

The brief given was to portray Mrs Castle’s love for nature and to promote respect for the area.

Parents were invited on the day as well as Mrs Castle’s daughter-in-law Jane Castle, who helped judge the competition.

The pensioner was knocked down in broad daylight by two 15-year-olds. Jiervon Bartlett, of Sentinel Close in Northolt, and Nayed Hoque of Bow, were each detained for six years after admitting manslaughter at the Old Bailey last May.
