Home and garden chain Wilko is to open a store in Fulham on December 12 - creating 79 jobs.

The 10,000 sq ft store will be in the Fulham Broadway Retail Centre and will be the company's 374th. It will stock everyday items from health and beauty products to gardening equipment, cleaning products and seasonal ranges.

Wilko says it has been recruiting from the local area to fill permanent and temporary positions, from sales assistants to stock supervisors and warehouse team members.

Store manager, Harlen Holding, said: "Opening a new store in Fulham is an exciting prospect for Wilko. We are pleased to be bringing our great value, high quality product ranges to the area and we are certain that local residents will appreciate our focus on providing excellent customer service.

"We are also proud to have created new jobs for local people and to be building a knowledgeable and professional team, who will make shopping at the store a unique, enjoyable experience for customers. Plans for the launch are shaping up well and we’re looking forward to joining the community in Fulham."

A family owned firm after more than 80 years of trading, JK Wilkinson opened the first Wilko store on Charnwood Street, Leicester, in 1930. The company’s portfolio has expanded significantly over the decades that have followed and there are currently 373 stores across the UK, including 10 in Scotland.

It serves some 10.5 million customers a year and stocks 25,000 product lines.
