As Oscar Wilde once said, 'I can resist anything accept temptation' and when the object of your desire moves next door things just get harder and harder.
Those with a sweet tooth may be interested to know that the sweet company who make Nutella, Ferroro Rocher and Kinder Surprise are moving to Greenford.
Ferrero will be taking over the Grade II listed Glaxo House which had been the global manufacturing and operations HQ for Glaxosmithkline (GSK) since the 1980s.
The popular manufacturer will be moving its UK headquarters to Greenford from Watford where it employs more than 140 people.
The Greenford Green GSK site was closed in 2009 and since 2011 its future has been at the centre of discussions between Ealing Council, politicians and the community.
Applications for plans which will bring new homes, employment, a cinema, food store, restaurants, cafes, community use, and public open space to the southern part of the site were approved on April 23 last year.
The building is part of a 23-acre plot bought by Stokin Greenford Ltd (SGL), which has planning approval for new homes, open space, shops and leisure facilities. Glaxo House is a Grade II listed building and will also be refurbished into homes.
Councillor Julian Bell, leader of the council, said: “We are delighted that Ferrero has chosen Ealing as the location for its UK headquarters. It is great news that another household name is choosing to move into our borough.
“We want good jobs and quality homes for local people and so the council has been working to encourage significant regeneration to take place across Ealing. With five Crossrail stations, the redevelopment of Ealing town centre and large projects like the Southall Gas Works progressing, confidence in the area’s investment potential is at an all-time high.
“Ealing is west London’s premier location and is taking on and winning inward investment from historically more popular parts of the capital. We are confident that we can build on this success and boost our local economy.”
Charlie Cayton, Ferrero’s director of corporate affairs and communications, said: “Ferrero is delighted to be relocating to Greenford Square. This heralds a new phase for our business in the UK and we believe the move will create new opportunities and help meet the future needs of our company.
"Our decision to move reflects our long term commitment to the UK market and our desire to invest in the local area, which is undergoing a significant and exciting period of regeneration.
"We are looking forward to being an active member in the community and to working closely with Ealing Council and other local authorities to bring value to the local area.”
