DIGNITARIES from all faiths have been invited to a non-denominatonal Prayer For Peace in light of the Israel-Gaza situation.

Christians, Jews, Hindus and other religious leaders will be joined by local councillors and politicians at The Husaini Islamic Centre, a mosque in Wood Lane, Stanmore, between 11am and 1pm on Sunday August 17 for a special ceremony.

A mosque spokesman said: “Community leaders will be coming together to deplore violence and suffering wherever it is around the around the world as a result of conflict, and to encourage our government - a world leader on the international stage - to take a more proactive position on some of these issues.”

There will be a prayer before a joint statement is read out, and possibly something like the symbolic lighting of a candle.

Anyone wishing to attend the Prayer For Peace is asked to RSVP to the mosque beforehand.
