A company which started in 1984 with only eight employees on a production line making crisps is celebrating being named top business in the area for the second year running.

Park Royal based Kolak Snack Foods Ltd increased its workforce by a further 150 staff this year and now boasts more than 700 staff working in its £9.6 million factory.

Gongs for everything from green credentials to best marketing campaign were handed out to businesses last night (Thursday) at a glamorous ceremony attended by 300 guests at the Radisson Blu Edwardian Hotel, on Bath Road, Harlington.

But it was Kolak who were once again the big winners on the night, scooping Highly Commended awards for the Innovation in Business and Training and Development categories to go with their overall triumphs in the Park Royal Business of the Year and the top West London Business of the Year categories.

Their overwhelmed chairman Ashok Lakhani beamed with pride and said: "I'm absolutely delighted and never expected to be named overall winner again after winning last year.

"It is marvellous to get this recognition from our customers after 30 years of hard work.

"We've raised the bar even higher now and are going to have to work even harder to repeat this triumph next year."

The judging panel was selected from the long list of award sponsors and included: Andrew Ward, director of corporate relations at Brunel University; Chris Maw, partner at PwC; Emma Hindes, general manager at Westfield; Ash Verma, chairman of Gateway Asia; Chris Longhurst, news editor Getwestlondon; Mike Langan, chairman of Hillingdon Chamber of Commerce and Frank Wingate the chief executive at West London Business which was the main organiser.

Also for the second year in a row the night was hosted by former Capital Radio DJ and current Radio Jackie presenter Mick Brown - assisted this time by his breakfast show colleague Neil Long.

There was also a hearty gratulacje for the founders of Wembley-based The Polish Bakery which was among the new winners for 2014.

Proudly clutching the award for Food and Drink Business of the Year to go alongside a Highly Commended in the Park Royal Business of the Year category was managing director Agnieszka Gabriel-Damaz.

The firm was founded in 2003 and became a limited company two years later and now supplies bread to several major supermarkets.

Ms Gabriel-Damaz said: "As a company we have always tried to look one or two steps ahead and now have over 70 employees.

"We specialise in Polish-recipe sourdough which contains no additives or preservatives and uses all natural ingredients.

"This is now supplied to places like Asda, Tesco and Sainsburys as well as smaller outlets.

"Awards like this prove we are going in the right direction and really give us the motivation to do even more."

Chairman of the judges Mr Ward said: "It gives me great pleasure to congratulate all those who submitted entries, the sponsors and the organisers.

"It is difficult to believe that this is only the second year that the awards have taken place.

"The overall quality had certainly improved and is testimony to the great range of businesses we are fortunate to have located in West London."
