Heathrow Airport celebrated a double boost last week.
After the Airports Commission decision on expansion, Heathrow has been named the best airport in Europe.
The west London airport's workforce has been recognised for its excellent service to passengers as well as its multi-billion pound transformation of the terminals, beating the likes of competitors such as Amsterdam Schiphol and Paris Charles de Gaulle.
The accolade - received at the prestigious Airports Council International Europe (ACI EUROPE) awards - comes after a double record-breaking year for the airport which handled 73.4m passengers and bagged its highest ever passenger satisfaction score.
It also bagged the eco-innovation award for its commitment to environmental responsibility in recognition of its car share scheme, public transport improvements, and also reduced air pollution by 16% over five years.
Chief executive John Holland-Kaye said: “I am immensely proud to receive these awards on behalf of all the people who work every day to make Heathrow better for its passengers.
“Heathrow plays a hugely important role both as the front door to the UK and also by connecting British people, exporters and exports to markets across the globe.
"Our efforts to make this one of the best airports in the world have been recognised and we now need permission to expand Heathrow to take our country even further.”
