Train operator First Great Western is marking the centenary of the First World War by adorning its trains with a poppy.

The engines which power its rolling stock - including on the high speed line at Old Oak Common in Willesden - were wearing their poppy with pride on Armistice Day (Tuesday November 11).

FGW’s Oak Old Common Depot Manager Dermot Fahy said: "The railways played such an important part in the First World War, transporting both supplies and soldiers around the country. It is important that we remember the sacrifice made and, with our High Speed Trains covering as many as 1,200 miles a day over 10 counties, we continue to honour the fallen.

"It is also an opportunity to honour the work done by the Royal British Legion who do so much to support servicemen and women and their families.  They do a fantastic job and I hope that having a poppy on the train will encourage more donations to their campaign."
