A pair of sisters have taken on the impressive task of running their father’s renowned hair salon.

Chloe and Florence Bellas are now running Clo&Flo at Bellissima in South Kensington’s Old Brompton Road after taking over the reigns from their father, Francois who started the Bellissima salon in 1985.

The half Corsican sisters had not originally planned on following in their parents footsteps but it was obviously in their blood and now Clo, 29, covers the business side of the salon while Flo, 24, tends to people’s hair.

Clo used to be in PR so has used her skills to freshen up the business and to build up some more loyal clients. “My dad had been running the salon for a long time and he had lots of clients but we felt it needed a new approach. For the last few years someone else was running the salon so it wasn’t quite the same.”

The sisters have certainly brought a freshness to the salon and having been brought up in the area and attended the nearby French Lycee they fit right in with the clientele of smart South Kensington.

“We’re both quite young and well educated which isn’t something you always find in hairdressing so our clients can relate to us, it makes them feel more comfortable. Hairdressing also has a very high turnover rate but we’ve luckily managed to keep our staff which is important to keep clients coming back, then they know they’ll get a good service every time.”

Clo and Flo may fit in very well with the young, beautiful Kensington set but they also have their heads screwed on and work incredibly hard which they say was instilled in them by their father from a young age. “Our lives are now our work, we understand that when you’re building something you need to be here all the time, this salon is our baby and we love being here even when it gets quite challenging.”

A nice addition to the salon is freshly made smoothies which were Clo’s idea as she feels good hair and skin can be helped by pampering but it needs to come from within as well.

The pair may only have taken over the salon last year but judging by the amount of clients flocking in their approach is doing their father proud.

My experience:

I was really impressed with my cut and dip-dye as unlike numerous hairdressers they actually listened to how much I wanted cut off and got my fussy request for a very natural look spot on.

All the staff, including Clo and Flo, were really friendly and I didn’t feel like I had to talk about the weather with them like so many hairdressers - everyone was down to earth and very helpful.

A cut and blow dry costs £58 which for South Kensington is a pretty good price and the quality means they earn every penny.
