British Airways (BA) is en route to helping its 50,000th customer to overcome a fear of flying.

The airline's Flying with Confidence programme, which has been running for nearly 30 years, is set to mark the milestone on Sunday (July 26) at Heathrow.

During the one-day course run by experienced BA pilots and cabin crew, nervous flyers will learn how an aircraft operates, why turbulence is safe, pick up expert advice on relaxation techniques, and how to manage anxiety before culminating in a 45-minute flight over London.

British Airways Flying with Confidence course instructor, Captain Steve Allright, said: "It's always fantastic to hear back from people who have just booked their dream holiday abroad for the first time.

"By coming on the course people have made the decision to take control, which is a great first step.

"As crew we are always keen to share our expertise and love of flying with anyone who wants our help, whether on a course or on a British Airways flight.

"We're incredibly proud to be able to say we have helped 50,000 people achieve their goal and start flying."

People who complete the course receive a 10% discount on their next British Airways flight for up to nine people in any cabin class.

The next courses due to run at Heathrow are on July 26 and September 26.
