The mystery of the Isle of Fernando's is one of Take Me Out's host Paddy Mcguinness best kept secrets.

Following the show's sixth wedding, its safe to say the secret island can make even the most unlikeliest of couples fall in love.

But in fact, and sorry to break the illusion, Take Me Out couples actually jet off to the town of Puerto de la Cruz which sits on the northern coast of Tenerife.

It gets less rain - and more sunshine - than the rest of the north of the Spanish island.

It has a traditional feel to it and is known as one of Tenerife's top destinations.

Its Sardine Festival and annual Carnival are two highlights.

Puerto de la Cruz also has a harbour with brightly coloured fishing boats, trendy cocktails bars and a striking beach.

Here are some of the things to do and see in the town.

Playa de Jardin beach

The main beach is a 1 kilometre stretch of black sand making it one of town's must-see spots.

It has sun loungers, changing rooms and a kiosk for visitors.

Thomson Holidays describes the waters as "choppy" and the kind wind surfers will love.

Towards the back of the beach lies a tropical garden with waterfalls, foot bridges, sun terraces and bars and restaurants.

Botanico Gardens at La Paz

About ten minutes out of the island, you will find Botanico Gardens at La Paz which is filled with exotic plants, flowers and trees.

The gardens are about 20,000 square metres and it's quite easy to spend the day there exploring.

Other exotic species include palm trees, aroids (which look a bit like orchids), aloes, mulberry and fig trees.

There's also a library and a herbarium devoted specifically to Canary Islands flora.

Siam Park

This is the largest water park in Tenerife and has more than 30 attractions to suit everyone's tastes.

If you're an adrenaline junkie check out the Tower of Power, which is famous for its nail-biting vertical drop.

Alternatively you can visit the rivers for a more laid-back experience.

And the good news is you can stay there too.
