The next couple of months will see hundreds of thousands of tourists flock to the city centre to experience the many attractions on offer.

From watching a show in the West End and shopping in Oxford Street, to exploring the Natural History Museum and picnicking at Hyde Park, there is plenty to see, do and enjoy in London this summer.

If you want to make a full weekend of it and don't fancy rushing to get the last train home, Novotel London Blackfriars offers an excellent base in which to make the most from your trip.

Novotel London Blackfriars is a five minute walk away from Waterloo train station

Located a few steps away from Southwark station and just a five minute walk from Waterloo train station, it is close to everything from museums, theatres and parks, to restaurants, shops and many of the capital's biggest tourist spots.

My partner and I stayed at the contemporary four star hotel for a weekend of exploring.

One of the rooms

With a view of the Shard from our window, our large, clean, comfortable room had all the mod-cons, including free Wi-Fi, 32" TV with media hub, safe, minibar and what I thought was very cool, a glass screen, which became transparent or opaque at the touch of a button, separating your room from your ensuite.

But what was more impressive was the luxurious bed and its Live N Dream changeable pillows that suit individual preferences and guarantees a fantastic nights sleep - what you need after a long day.

Sauna

The friendly 182-bed hotel, which caters for couples, business people and families, has a fitness centre, heated indoor pool and sauna.

We didn't use the leisure facilities but we did use the trendy Jamboree hotel restaurant and bar, which celebrates flavours from around the world.

Jamboree hotel restaurant and bar

Serving breakfast until the impressive hour of 11am on weekends, we enjoyed a leisurely start to the day, tucking into sausages and eggs from the hot buffet to pastries, cereals, cheese and fruit from the cold counter.

Everything was easy at Novotel. There was no stress checking-in or out, no loud noises preventing you from sleeping, no lugging suitcases for miles and no panicking that you had left your toiletries at home - it had everything.

With such a central location, it made our trip to the city a smooth, tranquil and effortless one - not what I was expecting when arriving on one of the warmest Saturdays of the summer.
