To celebrate its 50th year as one of London's most treasured hotels, Royal Lancaster London underwent an £80 million renovation.

With panoramic views across Hyde Park, the iconic luxury hotel reinstated its original name from 'Lancaster London’ and relaunched in November.

As one of Europe’s leading banqueting venues, the four star 18-floor hotel remained open for business throughout the refurbishment and now boasts a dazzling new entrance facade, reception lobby and a redesign of of all 411 rooms and suites.

The showpiece of the lobby had to be the palatial sweeping staircase made of 300 square meters of white Carrara marble wrapped around to the first floor.

Another opulent feature was the elegant Hyde Lobby Bar serving Champagne, cocktails, coffee and light cuisine throughout the day.

I was invited to look around the renovated resort and experience a night's stay inside a stylish executive bedroom on the top floor.

As expected, the room had breathtaking views over the city skyline and was finished to a superior standard with sumptuous fixtures and fittings, grand furniture and all the mod-cons.

Impeccably designed combining timeless classic and contemporary style, the elegant double room was spacious with a large seating area, working desk and opulent marble bathroom, with walk-in rainfall shower and tub.

A 1.8m king size bed, Nespresso machine, 55-inch Smart TV with International channels, mini bar, slippers and dressing gown, White Company toiletries and complimentary mineral water made our stay extra comfortable.

Rich bed linen, under furniture night lighting and a warm bathroom were little luxuries that made this hotel stand out from others.

As well as the spruced up rooms, the renovation saw a new bar in the downstairs lobby, gold, polished brass and bronze features and an impressive eight metre high glazed facade.

Breakfast was served in the Park Restaurant, named for its wonderful views over Hyde Park.

Amazing Hyde Park views from the hotel's Park Suite

The room provided a quietly glamorous setting to start the day with an ever-evolving menu, crafted by acclaimed executive chef Ben Purton.

Featuring the finest seasonal produce and ingredients from around the world, expect classic English breakfast, poached eggs and avocado, fluffy pancakes, warm bread and pastries, fresh fruit, cereals and nut toppings, cold meat, fish and cheese, creamy yoghurts, freshly squeezed juices and a range of Thai inspired delicacies.

I recommend the pancakes drizzled in maple syrup with blueberries from the cooked-to-order menu, plus a bowl of lychee, kiwi and strawberries from the fresh fruit buffet.

Make sure you fully indulge in the mouthwatering selection, as you can walk it off across the road in the glorious park afterwards.

The legendary hotel combines charm and tradition, offering all guests a truly royal experience.
