We had a wonderful family wedding this week, my sister finally tied the knot with her long-time boyfriend Ryan. If it wasn't moving enough seeing Lucy getting hitched, I had a massive lump in my throat when Alex stood up in front of everyone at the ceremony and delivered the Teddy Bear poem he'd learnt especially for the occasion.
At school these days the children in each class have to deliver short talks about various things, whether it's hobbies or coursework or project work.
Having to speak up in front of your whole class or school and make a short presentation is such great practice for being a grown up - Alex wasn't nervous, he knew he'd learnt his poem and wasn't phased at all about reciting it aloud to an audience.
I'd have been like jelly had it been me - the only speaking aloud we did at school was reciting lines from Romeo and Juliet! I still get so nervous when I have to make a presentation of some sort.
What a brilliant skill to teach our kids and prepare them for working life.
Like most great weddings, I had a bit of a boogie, then went to bed far too late but I obviously didn't move much during the night because when I woke up my elaborate bridesmaid hair-do, complete with sparkling diamonds, looked exactly the same as it had when I'd fallen asleep - my professionally applied make-up hadn't budged an inch either!
There's nothing like a good boogie on the dance floor to bring back memories of life BC (before children). Whilst I love having a dance with Alex in the kitchen it's usually to some trashy kids pop CD rather than the grown-up 'disco' music that I still love from my youth!
Not any more, though, as Baby Loves Disco is the new disco CD launched by the organisation of the same name which runs discos for babies and their parents around the UK.
Whilst our nearest is quite a trek, at the Clapham Grand, you can now have the great music they play at the disco parties in your own home.
The release date for the CD is October 13 but Alex and I had a sneak preview and a danced around our kitchen to disco classics such as Abba's Dancing Queen, the Jacksons' hits I Want You Back and Blame it on the Boogie, and Boogie Wonderland by Earth, Wind and Fire. Girls Aloud, Take That and Rhianna also feature.
Alex loved all the music and he's looking forward to learning some new tunes that his mum and dad know so well such as Car Wash by Rose Royce or Diana Ross' I'm Coming Out!
You can order the Baby Loves Disco CD online at www.babylovesdisco.co.uk or from usual music retailers.
Best of all you don't have to have a baby to enjoy this CD. Any mum or dad who enjoys a bit of a boogie to disco music will love sharing this CD with kids of all ages at home or in the car. Glitterballs and platform shoes optional!
