THIS photograph, published in the Weston Mercury and Somersetshire Herald in January 1940, shows trainee hairdressers from the Regent Street Polytechnic, who had been evacuated to Weston-super-Mare, cutting the hair of girls from Brackenbury Road School.

Children from the school had been evacuated to Somerset after the outbreak of war.

Most went to Frome, some to Weston-super-Mare, but many

returned to London after a few months when the danger seemed to have lessened.
