It's cold, we crank up the heating, we drink more hot tea and coffee (or hot chocolate if you are me!).

The desire to eat hearty food is upon us, such as pies, pasties, mashed potatoes and such like. Oh and its party season so the rich food and alcohol intake is up also. But what about your poor skin? All the above contribute to poor skin lacking in lustre, especially the dry air caused by central heating.

Let me give you some of my tops tips on how to cope with these skin conditions.

Those of you who suffer with Eczema know your symptoms get worse in the winter. Your skin is red and in?amed, itchy and dry. You must stay away from harsh soaps, cleansers that are not Ph balanced and also avoid really hot baths or showers because this reduces the skins natural oil content.

Red rosy cheeks look amazing on children but this is not a great look for adults. If this is your permanent look then it probably means you have Rosacea. It can also appear on the forehead, chin and nose. Rosacea is a form of acne. I treat this condition in my clinic and Im seeing it more and more every year. You need to stay away from too much alcohol, caffeine, spicy foods.

Invest in a humidi?er and have it one in the rooms where you spend most of your time. This will ensure the air in your home stays humid. This will help all skin condition.

Research shows that as a country we only tend to really look after our skin during summer months when we think about showing our body more. Protect your skin all year round then when summer arrives it will continue to look fresh and healthy.
