I have recently been talking to a few clients who are "panicking" about getting into shape for their Summer Holidays; one client in particular wanted to know if they could lose 8lbs in 5 weeks. My answer was, yes, it's possible but why leave it until the last minute?

1. Plan Ahead

Throughout the year you should always be looking to maintain a base level of fitness; attending your regular classes or doing your usual number of runs/swims etc. When you have a specific holiday coming up then give yourself 10-12 weeks to really increase your exercise routine.

2. Change your Exercise Routine

When you have decided on the time span to give yourself, speak to a Personal Trainer about how you can change your routine in order to achieve the changes you want. You wont need to book a load of sessions necessarily (although you can of course!) one session per week with a Trainer may well be enough. One thing for sure though, you must change/vary your programme in order to "shake things up ". Your body gets used to the same exercise routine and so results don't come as quickly, so by changing what you do you increase your chances of getting in shape for you holiday.

3. Get Some Nutrition Advice

You can't out-exercise a bad diet! No matter how much you change your exercise routine you wont make any big improvements unless you eat and drink well. Most Personal Trainers will be able to help you with this by offering suggestions on what you should be eating and when etc. Again, a lot of Personal Trainers will be happy to offer this advice during a consultation, or possibly charge for a more detailed eating plan.

So, if you want to feel your best on holiday follow the three tips we suggest in this post and if you would like any more detailed information you can contact us here for a free 30 minute consultation.

Next time we shall go into a little more detail on what to eat in order to compliment your training programme. In the meantime train hard, eat well and then enjoy your holiday!!
