This year I am giving the Ealing Half Marathon another go and as it is in September it means I am going to have to do some running whilst on my summer holidays in order to keep my fitness levels up and my training on track. We are heading to Devon and Cornwall so the countryside and the beach provides a much nicer environment than London.

Summer holidays are here again and there’s a good chance you have been exercising hard for a good few months now in order to “get in shape” for your time away. So, whilst you are away do you put your feet up, knock back the Pina Coladas and chill out or do you do a little exercise to keep your self going?

A client of mine recently lost 7lbs and 3-4% body fat before her summer break and was so motivated by her progress she was determind to do a little bit of running and swimming whilst she was away. She isn’t yet back, but I am willing to bet she will keep her word!

Obviously, being on holiday is a great chance to relax and unwind away from the stresses of working life and for me, anyway, it is a chance to take a bit more time to enjoy my exercise. Maybe you can take a little bit more time in the hotel gym, or take a slightly more leisurely run around the local area and there is always the swimming pool of course for a few extra lengths and maybe even a few times a day? Even if you take in a few extra walks around the local area, it all helps.

Also, I really enjoy the physchological affect of exercising on holiday; what could feel better than coming back from a little jog by the beach to enjoy a fresh juice on the balcony knowing that the only decision you have to make for the rest of the day is where to go for dinner later on.

So, you really should try to take a little exercise whilst on holiday and not just for the physical benefits but for the mental benefits as well and who knows, you may get into some good habits that you will bring back home with you!

Let me know what your plans are for exercising on your holiday this year, and when you get back tell me if you stuck to them! In the meantime, Happy Holidays!
