When I started planning this wedding, I thought I'd save as much money as possible by hand-making what I could.

How hard could it be?

Turns out the answer to that is 'very'.

I handmade the Save the Date cards a while ago, which was reasonably straightforward, and I only needed to send about 40 of them out. It all went ok, and they looked pretty good, even if I do say so myself.

So I turned my hand to the invitations...piece of cake, right?

From a plain A4 piece of card, I needed to turn each invitation into a tri-folded card, with a pocket which contained an RSVP card, hotel details and a map to the venue.

I'd also planned to put little magnets inside the pocket and on the top flap of the invitation to ensure it would close.

However, in reality, the magnets were so small they kept getting dropped on the floor, leaving me on my hands and knees with a fridge magnet trying to find them and pick them back up.

I suspect I'll be finding them for months to come.

The pockets, which were made from a separate piece of card and stuck into the invitations were too small, and the RSVP cards too big.

So they just ended up dumped in a pile, and I'm gearing myself up to start again. They would have been thrown on the floor, but I would have had to tidy it all up and I hate housework.

Back to square one it is, then.

And once I've finished the invitations, I have to do place cards, order of services, menus and photo booth props.

At this rate I'll have a full head of grey hair by the time the wedding arrives.
