It’s a mystery how Carley and Christian became friends.

The RSPCA do not know what circumstances brought them together. They were found in a red wire cage on the Reception desk at Harmsworth Animal Hospital. Carley is still wearing the pink collar and bell she had on at the time. Seven year old Christian is a large cuddly, teddy bear of a cat - with no tail. Carley is smaller and about one year old. Due to Carley’s young age, they cannot have been friends long, but they are devoted to each other and must be homed together. If you can home these two friendly cats, call 0300 1230746 or see them at the RSPCA Cat Adoption Centre, Burket Close, Southall UB2 4JS.

In order to help stray and unwanted cats, Cats Protection is asking people to take part in a consultation as they prepare a “Cat Manifesto” ahead of next year’s general election. The charity has proposed 10 manifesto priorities which, if delivered, would make a huge impact on the lives of the nation’s estimated eight million pet cats and two million stray and feral cats. The measures would benefit both cats and society as a whole.

Proposals for comment include updating the law to control breeding and sale of cats to reduce numbers of unwanted kittens. Also, for government recognition of the need for people with cats or other companion animals in rented housing to be allowed to keep their pets. The charity will draw up a final manifesto for cats in the Autumn to ensure greater recognition of feline welfare in the next government. It’s easy to take part in the consultation, just visit www.cats.org.uk/manifesto.

Finally, another generous offer from Dogs Trust. They are inviting owners to have their dog neutered, microchipped, vaccinated and treated against fleas and worms free of charge.
