It’s time to dive back in. My plaster is off, my broken ankle is mended and I no longer have an excuse for sitting around. I feel as though for the past 7 weeks I’ve been sitting at the edge of a swimming pool watching others in the water while I stay on the side.

Many animals in our re-homing centres spend a lot of time on the sidelines, looking out from kennels and pens, as others get re-homed and begin new lives. Take Lucy, for example. Lucy was adopted from the National Animal Welfare Trust (NAWT) in February 2013. Unfortunately, after 2 weeks, she accidentally got out of her new home and was lost.

She turned up in October 2013 at a vets after being knocked down by a car and breaking her pelvis (her identification demonstrates the benefits of microchipping). By then, her previous owners had given up hope of finding her and had another cat. Unable to afford two cats, the NAWT were contacted who immediately took her back.

After months of hard work Lucy is now ready to dive back into living life to the full. She is 10 years old, affectionate and playful. She still walks with a limp but is much better than she was. If you can see yourself and Lucy helping each other to enjoy life together, call 020 8950 0177 or see her at Tylers Way, Watford WD25 8WT.

NAWT have a brilliant idea for using defunct car tax disc holders. They have designed a tax disc template which can contain emergency information about you and your pets. The template can be downloaded from nawt.org.uk then completed and placed in the holder in the car helping to give you peace of mind that your pets will be cared for if you, like Lucy, have an accident.
